Chicks 'n Bunnies

Well, I had a great new recipe all ready to publish for you this morning.  I was so excited about it!  But there was a big problem:  It was NOT GOOD!  It was a BIG FLOP! So, it's back to the drawing board with the Crock Pot Mandarin Orange Chicken!  Oh, well!

So, instead...here are a few cute ideas for Easter.  A "Peep" in a little graham cracker house, complete with edible grass and edible eggs.  My husband would steal the Peeps and eat them (yucky, in my opinion!).

And the next cute food craft is bunny pancakes!  Kids would surely want to gobble him up!  If they don't like coconut, replace it with yogurt or a little spray of whipped topping. Adorable!

Chevron Bunny Wall Art

While decorating for Spring over "Spring Break", I decided I wanted some kind of bunny wall art.  I decided to look at Pinterest (unusual for me!) for "Easter wall art" or "Bunny Burlap"...something like that. I had this burlap canvas (purchased at Hobby Lobby on sale for $3.00), so planned to use it.

I saw a really cute Chevron fabric bunny, but I didn't have any Chevron fabric. Then I happened to remember that I had bought Chevron napkins and plates for Easter and a ladies' salad supper I'm having  next month.  I figured I could get two bunnies out of each napkin, and I would do two napkins - so four bunnies for my four children. But, to my surprise, there were SIX bunnies that cut out all at the same time! So, I figured I'd make our whole family!

The bunnies were quickly added to the canvas with a dot of hot glue in a few places. The cotton ball was hot glued for the tail. A quick Easter/Spring decoration for less than $4.00!!!

THS Seniors of 2013 - Easter Party

The Senior Class get-togethers will soon be coming to an end because the group will soon be graduating.  Because of that, my daughter and I wanted this Easter party to be extra-fun!  We bought about 300 eggs and painted them with glow-in-the-dark paint on the ends (we had lots of help painting them!).
The class ate ham, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, corn, macaroni & cheese, and rolls.
The girls that arrived early helped decorated the table with Easter-themed plates, tablecloth, and napkins.

Dessert was ice cream sundaes with waffle bowls, Blue Bell ice cream, and lots of different toppings.
They decorated boiled eggs using Koolaid....
...an idea we found on Pinterest.
They ended the evening with the egg hunt.  There was a problem, though....The eggs didn't glow because it was a full moon!!!  However, they did show up because they were pastel and easy to see.  (Just kind of sad that they spent so much time painting them for nothing!! Ha ha!)

No matter how old you may be, it's always fun to act like a kid again!  These seniors had fun just being kids :).  I hope they are making memories that will last a life time!

Easter Egg Centerpiece

Isn't this cute?  I saw it on display at Dillard's in the Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City.  It made a beautiful centerpiece for an Easter-inspired table setting.

The eggs were placed in the large glass vase, then other eggs were hot glued to each other forming the "egg branches" poking out from the vase.  I thought it was a great idea and wanted to share it with all of you!  I even bought a bunch of tiny eggs to do the same thing.  However, they're still in the original packaging and will most likely stay there. Maybe next year! :)

Easter Goodies

My intention was to make several new things last week to be able to share with you this week.  However, because of circumstances beyond my control, I wasn't able to.  (Read HERE to learn why.)  The last thing I wanted to do was cook!

So...I found a few cute sites with some Easter goodies that I'll share with you.  There are several neat ideas!

PEEPS!

My husband adores the PEEPS marshmallow snacks.  I think they're nasty!  A few weeks ago, just for fun, I did a Facebook poll about the like and dislike of PEEPS.  The dislikes won out by a long shot, which caused me to wonder....."Why do they sell if so many don't like them?"  Many do like them, I suppose, but others who don't like them buy them too, it seems.  I buy them for my husband.  Parents buy them for their children.  So, apparently that's how they remain popular.

After my Facebook poll, several people began sending me cute ideas about decorating with PEEPS.  I'll agree - they're adorable!  And because of their chemical makeup of no nutritional value at all, these decorations would most likely stay good for years.  I honestly don't think bugs or rodents would eat them, either! (ha ha!)

So here are a few Easter PEEPS decorations for you, with directions on making them:  (Enjoy!)

Broken Window Glass Cake

Posted by Lori:

I remember making this cake many, many years ago for Easter.  In fact, by the side of that recipe it says, "Easter 1990".  That's been a long time!!

I suppose I didn't ever make it again because #1:  It was very time-consuming, and #2:  I don't like Jello.  I'm sure that is the biggest reason because it was a beautiful cake!  So, I thought I would share it with you.

This recipe is from the cookbook, "Best Recipes from the backs of boxes, bottles, cans and jars".  This particular recipe is from The New Joys of Jello-O - a 1973 cookbook.

Broken Window Glass Cake

1 - 3 ounce package Jell-O Brand Orange Flavor Gelatin
1 - 3 ounce package Jell-O Brand Cherry Flavor Gelatin
1 - 3 ounce package Jell-O Brand Lim Flavor Gelatin
3 cups boiling water
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 - 3 ounce package Jell-O Brand Lemon Flavor Gelatin
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup canned pineapple juice
1 - 8 ounce container whipped topping (The original recipe says to use BirdsEye Cool Whip, which I'm not sure is still even made.)

Prepare the orange, cherry and lime gelatins separately, dissolving each in 1 cup boiling water and adding 1/2 cup of the cold water.  Pour each flavor into separate 8-inch square pans.  Chill until firm, at least 3 hours or overnight.  Cut into 1/2-inch cubes.  Mix crumbs with butter.  Set aside about 1/4 cup for garnish, if desired, and press remaining crumb mixture evenly over bottom and up sides to within 1 inch from top of 9-inch springform or tube pan.  Chill.  Dissolve lemon gelatin and sugar in 1 cup boiling water; add pineapple juice.  Chill until slightly thickened.  Blend in whipped topping.  Fold in gelatin cubes.  Spoon into crumb-lined pan.  Chill overnight or until firm.  Just before serving, run a spatula around sides of pan; then gently remove sides.  Garnish with reserved crumbs or with additional whipped topping and flaked coconut, tinted, if desired.  Makes 12 to 16 servings.

Easter Ideas

Fabric Carrot Candy Holders

Kimberly made these cute fabric carrot candy holders last year for everyone at Easter.  She said she had a pattern for them, but I found a tutorial that would work for the fabric cone shape.  Here is the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_6573523_make-paper-fabric-cone.html

To finish the carrot candy cones, slit the top of the fabric down to where you want to tie off your carrot.  Insert desired candy into cone and tie off with ribbon.  So cute!

Oven Baked Hard Cooked Eggs

At Easter, a friend put on Facebook that she cooked her eggs in the oven.  I had never heard of it, but thought it sounded great to be able to cook them for a certain amount of time and not have to watch for the water to boil on the stove and then time the cooking process.  The oven-baked method worked wonderfully!

Here's how you do it:

Place desired amount of uncooked eggs directly on rack in the oven (rack should be in the center).  Place cookie sheet or foil on bottom oven rack - just in case one cracks or has a small, unseen crack. Set oven to bake and 325 degrees.  Bake for 30 minutes.  After baking, place eggs in ice water.  Allow to cool for a few minutes then peel.  At that point you can either continue to cool them in the water, cool then in the water, or eat them!

Deviled Egg Chicks
I've made a variation of these before, for one of my children's elementary classes several years ago.  They were adorable!  These are too!  It's a Taste of Home recipe found at this link -http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Chicks-on-the-Ranch-Deviled-Eggs

Have a blessed Easter, everyone!
